Jan. 7--SEMINOLE -- A Seminole man died when a tanker truck exploded near Seminole Wednesday.

Seminole Assistant Fire Chief Bryant Baker said his department received a call just after 9 a.m.

A search is under way for a missing chemical plant employee in southwest Washington.

Firefighters were called to Equachlor at about 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Day after a report of the missing worker. A search of the plant led crews to believe that the missing person may have fallen into a large pile of salt and become buried.

Rescuers searched the salt pile and other areas of the plant but were unable to the employee.

County firefighters were honored Tuesday for helping to avert a potential disaster at the unveiling of the commercial spacecraft Spaceship Two.

Nearly 1,000 people stood under a tent the night of Dec. 7, at Mojave Air and Space Port enjoying the unveiling of Spaceship Two.

Officials said many people had flown in from across the world for the big event and everything was going as planned until officials keeping track of the wind decided everyone had to be evacuated for safety reasons.

Police in Hampstead said a man died despite attempts by a police officer and good Samaritans to free him Sunday from his truck that crashed into a tree and caught fire.

According to police, Officer Mark Conway was on patrol on Kent Farm Road when he came upon the truck. The fire melted away the side paneling and the impact pushed the engine into the front seat.
