The Manhattan Fire Department Administrative staff includes the Fire Chief, 2 - Assistant Chiefs, 1 - Chief Training/Safety Officer, 1 - Fire Marshal, 2 - Fire Inspectors and 2 secretaries. Three shifts are covered by 60 full time uniformed personnel and 9 part time Student Firefighters from Kansas State University. One ladder truck, 3 - 75' quints, 3 - class A pumpers, 2 - ARFF vehicles, 1 - medium duty rescue truck, 1 - hazardous materials truck and 1 - brush truck operate out of 4 stations. The department also has a mobile air compressor and 11 - support vehicles. The City's Building Code Department and Custodial Services are also under the Fire Department. The Code Department has 6 full time personnel and Custodial Services is operated by 3 - full time and 1 - part time employee.
